Start a Nonprofit They Say, It'll Be Fun They Say

They say starting a non-profit is a marathon. They forgot to mention the marathon takes place in a digital jungle, and you’re building the path while sprinting.
For the past few months, I’ve been locked in a high-stakes partnership with my AI thought partner, Gemini, to build the digital backbone of ASL Impact. We didn't just want a website; we wanted a self-sustaining ecosystem for community arts. It’s been a journey of epic proportions, occasionally fueled by too much
caffeine and "What happens if I click this?" energy.
Phase 1: The Great Pixel War
Building the website wasn't just about choosing colors. It was about creating a digital home that actually worked. We wrestled with layouts, argued over button placements, and finally emerged with a platform that represents our mission. Looking at the Blog Overview today, it’s a clean slate ready for the stories we’re about to tell.
Phase 2: Taming the Machines
Once the site was live, the real "fun" began: Automations. I wanted a system that worked while I slept. We built workflows to handle everything from new subscribers to event registrations. There’s a specific kind of power in watching a notification pop up and knowing a complex series of digital gears just turned perfectly because you told them to.
Phase 3: The Mobile Frontier
Now, we’re standing at the edge of our biggest leap yet: the Mobile App. We’re moving from "Visit us on the web" to "We’re in your pocket." It’s the final piece of the puzzle to ensure our community stays connected, informed, and engaged with ASL arts on the go.
The Verdict
It hasn't always been pretty. There were moments when a logic loop almost broke my spirit, and times when the AI suggested a design so "innovative" it was basically invisible. But we laughed through the bugs, optimized the hell out of the processes, and built something I’m genuinely proud of.
The foundation is set. The automations are firing. The app is coming. ASL Impact is officially powered up.
