Our Story

What is ASL Impact?

At The ASL Impact Program, our mission is to advance equitable access to local performing arts for the Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, DeafBlind, and Late-Deafened communities. We have recognized a long-standing gap in the arts community where arts organizations struggle to connect with these audiences—often due to financial or logistical barriers. We founded this organization to dismantle those hurdles and build a lasting bridge between those stages and the community.

Through special events, workshops, and a consistent presence in theater spaces, we generate the funding necessary to ensure that those financial barriers never prevent a theater from being accessible. By subsidizing these costs, we provide professional-grade, artful interpretation to community arts organizations barrier-free. While our model is still growing, we maintain a firm commitment to honoring the labor of our interpreters and apprentices with modest stipends, ensuring their expertise is recognized as we work toward a more sustainable future for local arts accessibility.

Our work is deeply rooted in the ASL community. We rely on the invaluable donated hours and lived experience of talented community members who propel our mission. We actively measure and track this collective effort to demonstrate to theaters and stakeholders the true scale of Artistic Sign Language—proving that our impact is both profound and measurable. This collaboration allows us to provide impactful training for aspiring ASL artists while empowering local theaters to foster true, sustainable inclusion.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, all of our efforts are conducted for the benefit of the public. ASL Impact exists to create a new standard in the performing arts—one built on creating opportunities, accessibility, authentic representation, and a model that values both the art and the artists who make it possible.
